METAXOCHORI

Small village with few inhabitants, 4 KM West of the village of Christ at an altitude of 600 m. The residents migrated to the lowlands of ierapetra, on the spout, at Ammoydares, xerokambos and dealing with greenhouses. The village was renamed in 1955 by Parsas in Metaxochori in honor of Ecumenical Patriarch Meletios Metaxakis born here.

The settlement of Metaxochwrioy are the 17th century as can be seen from the dating of old churches. Formerly the Parsas as it was called was built 2 km and below in place Myrtaras. Till 1929 belonged to the municipality of Viannos province Mournion. Since then formed the autonomous community, the 1990s belonged to the municipality of NEA Mallas and today's local district of the municipality of ierapetra.
